Wood has a way of guiding the design process, and this beautiful piece of Zebrano was no exception. Its distinct character inspired me to create the offset S.L Guitars signature shape—a model that I hope, over time, will become as iconic as the classics.

Finished in natural oil, the rich grain of the Zebrano is left to shine through, while the purpleheart neck and fretboard offer a striking contrast with their vibrant, natural hue. This is perfectly complemented by the gold hardware, adding a touch of elegance and luxury to the Merlin.

When possible, I like to support local businesses, which is why I’ve chosen custom-wound pickups from the exceptional British maker, Green Pick-ups. The quality rivals well-known brands, but what sets them apart is their unique blend of aesthetic appeal, tonal customisation, and a personal touch that brings your guitar to life.

For this build, I’ve opted for Evo Gold frets, which are hypoallergenic and offer a smooth feel. Not only do they provide a softer touch, but they’re also far more wear-resistant than traditional nickel-silver frets, ensuring long-lasting playability.

To enhance tuning stability and ease of use, Gotoh locking tuners are included. These tuners improve precision, reduce string slippage, and make string changes faster—perfect for regular performers or serious home players. With its high-quality craftsmanship and versatile design, the Merlin is a guitar that will suit both the stage and your personal collection.
